A libel is a publication of false and defamatory statement in some permanent form tending to injure the reputation of another without lawful justification. In order to establish libel, following must be proved:
1. The statement must be false.
2. It must be permanent in form.
3. It must be defamatory.
Libel is actionable per se i.e. without the proof of actual damages. When the statement is made in the permanent form, the presumes that the person defamed has suffered damages.
